Player Profiles
Mark Renny.RHB, "Renoir" is the 1st XI captain for the 2010 season he has played in the first eleven since the age of sixteen, and captained Ayr to their first Scottish Cup success beating West of Scotland at Hamilton Cresent in 1999. A top order batsmen and one of the clubs best fielders.
Andi McElnea. RHB RM Bowler, "Andi Pal" has developed majorly over the last few years and was rewarded with a call up to the Scotland Lions last season. A top order batsmen and a handy death bowler Andi is vice captain of the 1st XI for the coming season. Cricket is Andi's first love although this has been pushed close recently with Andi's jaunts to London becoming more regular.
Phil Wilson. RHB LFM Bowler. "Bungy" is a solid left arm seam bowler and a useful lower order batsmen. Played in the Scottish Cup win in 1999 and captained the 1st XI in 2008 and 2009
Daniel Fleming RHB LF Bowler. "Flemo" is the clubs overseas amateur for the 2010 season. Already a regular in some of Ayrs top night time entertainment venues. Bowled a 14 ball over in his first league game and still managed a 5 for! Enjoys Jim Bean and skype sessions with his girlfriend.
Scott McElnea. RHB RFM Bowler, "Scooter" became a 1st XI regular in 2009 and is a useful bowler. Recently selected for the national Under 19 training squad Scott can also do a job with the in the lower order. No stranger to playing a rain card Scott was a hungover 3rd man for most of Ayrs only league victory last season.
Callum Leck RHB RM Bowler, "Fidel" made his mark on the 1st XI in 2008 and since then has claimed some big name wickets. An attacking batsmen, Callum has not failed to score runs for the 2nd XI in recent seasons and is happy to remind anyone of his 1st XI average. When not taking photos of himself kissing his girlfriend "Lecko" will normally be found in Club De Mar on Saturday nights.
Neil Smith LHB WKT, "Smudger" kept wicket for the 1's in the 2009 season after Craig Hunter retired. He is also capable of scoring runs against any attack on his day. Represented Scotland Under 17s in 2009. Neils parents will think twice about going on holiday this summer after an unexplained t-shirt was found in "Smithys" toilet and the bedsheets were in the wash when they returned last year.
Douglas Johnstone. RHB Leg Spin Bowler, "Mushibeg" a stalwart of the 1st XI has the ability to change games with his immense hitting power. Ex professional footballer can also pick up key wickets with his leg spin. Will be a key player in 2010.
Ross Mitchell.RHB Slow off break bowler,"Rosco" is the 2nd XI captain for a second season. After a strong 2009 season Ross will be looking to lead the 2nd XI to another top end of the league finish in 2010. Ross' manager, Jim Murdoch of the Carrick Lodge, commented: "We had a number of complaints recently after Ross dropped a glass and someone in the restaurant stood up and shouted loudly 'HILLHEEED'".
Richard Borland RHB RFM Bowler, "Chankman" is a very hard hitting batsman with the ability to hit any bowler out the park on his day,is also a good player to have in your team to bowl as his height can be a danger with his bounce and pace. Has a career high score of 146* after 20 overs when he decided to retire in a Strathclyde League game! 2nd XI Vice Captain for the coming season. Hollyoaks omnibus normally leaves Richard fatigued for Sunday Games.
Davie Johnstone RHB, "Heed" is a powerful middle order batsmen capable of taking the game away from oppositon with big hitting at crucial moments. Enjoys spending time with his two favourite people, Stella and Jack. Founder of the Davie J award.
Adam Gilbert RHB. "Gilbs" will captain the 3rd XI this coming season and left university to apply himself fully to the task. Struggled for form in 2009 but is looking to lead the 3rd XI to a high league finish in 2010
Alan Martin RHB LM Bowler. "Pieman" is a usefull left arm bowler and morale supervisor. Sure to bring a bit of banter and a good vibe to any team he plays for. Has created a media whirlwind by announcing his retirement after the 2009 season, this is an old trick and the webmaster is offering odds of 1/7 on Pieman playing next season.
Gavin Caven RHB, "Cavers" former 1st XI skipper, rumoured to be returning to the squad for the 2010 season. Member of historic Western Union winning sides in '94 and '96, famously gloving a leg bye to secure the '96 title.
NEIL GRAY RS Bowler, "Shadow" a right arm slow bowler mastered the art of taking wickets in the 2nd XI by bowling himself at the vulnerable middle and lower order. Would be the first on the phone to the local press to report figures after the game. Did not appear for any games last season and speculation surrounding his where abouts continues to grow
Alan Davidson LHB, RFM Bowler. "Davo" joined the club in 2010 from Dumfries. A top order batsmen and the lyricist behind the new Ayr Cricket Club song, which Alan is happy to sing on Saturday nights.
